development of the local defence intustry to cover domestic / international needs of the other, so as to reduce the large National trade deficit in the sector of defence equipment.

SEKPY was founded two decades ago, on March 1982. The founding members were initialy 20 companies with experience in the area of defence industry employing about 2000 people.As time passed more companies joined the Association and today almost all Greek defence industries are members of SEKPY employing directly 19.500 people.
The companies which are organized,operated and managed under modern standarts and procedures have been succesfully evaluated by foreign organizations and manufacturers who undertake defence workloads. Most of them cover all requirements of the Alliance Quality Assurance Publications (AQAP) and the International Organization of Standardization (ISO).

The activities of the Greek Defence industry can be classified in to the following main categories:

Military Products

1. AMMUNITIONS AND EXPLOSIVES

Ammunitions for rifles, mortars, small and medium caliber guns, tanks, howitzers aircraft naval guns, HEAT, rockets 2.75", cargo ammunition, propellant powders, charges, fuses, grenades, smoke bombs. Commercial explosives, gelatine dynamites, PETNANFO, pentaplastit etc.

2. ARMS AND WEAPON SYSTEMS

Small arms, machine guns, mortars, pistols, sporting rifles, anti-aircraft weapon systems, MLRS, antitank weapon system.

3. SHIPS

There are large and well known shipyards which are involved in shipbuilding, repairs and modifications of military and commercial ships.

4. MILITARY AND ARMOURED VEHICLES

Armoured Personnel Carrier, Armoured Vehicles lorries for military and civil use,Fire-Fighting vehicles, Cross Country 1/4 ton military jeep, Buses and Armoured tank transporters.

5. AEROSPACE

Greek defence industry provides maintenance,manufacturing and technical training in the intergated systems;Aircraft, Helicopters, Engines, Electronics, Avionics.

6. COMMUNICATION AND ELECTRONICS

Very large variety of products e.g.: Radio communication station telephones, telephone centers, standardized circuits, mobile portable and base transceivers, radio links, transducer systems, frequency carrier systems, television transposers antennas, EWsystems, jammers etc. Also components for electronic devices.

7. OPTICAL ELECTROOPTICAL

Night vision aiming sights, night vision observation sights, mortar optical sights, tank periscopes.

8. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Electric power generators, emergency power units, electrical components and wiring for a lot of main military equipment, batteries, cables etc.

9. SPARE PARTS

A large number of companies construct a wide variety of spare patrs almost for all kind of main military equipment. More than 50.000 different parts are produced by: High precision machining , steel sheet works, Forging,Precision Casting with the method of lost wax.

10. MISCELLANEOUS

Some products which are not mentioned in any of the above categories are camouflage nets, inflatable military boats, NBC masks, bullet proof vests and bullet proofing of vehicles, emergency floatation devices to helicopters etc.
In addition to the above, almost all of the defence industries produce equipment and provide services for the civil sector.

We want to point out, that the Greek Defence Industry, regardless of its small size, produces a great variety of equipment of the highest standards, due to the strenuous efforts of the highly specialized staff involved in this procedure and those of the MOD aiming at the operation of a flexible, financially sound and world-wide competitive Defence Industry.

SEKPY is well informed on all matters concerning the Greek and international defence industry and is therefore specifically qualified to enable foreign military procurement agencies, goverment departments and industries to identify Greek defence manufactures according to their specific requirements in defence material and service.In addition SEKPY assists international defence contractors to identify subcontractors in Greece for the implementation of their OFFSETS obligations and industrial co-operation.Further more SEKPY is in close contact with NATO, NAMSA,WEAG,EU and other international organizations.
